When inquiring about a retractable awning from prospective awning companies, remember to ask if their technicians are factory trained; can they repair the unit; will they be there after the sale?

Never leave your awning unattended while it's extended.

Do not extend your retractable awning in presence of strong winds.

Do not barbecue under your awning.

Do not allow birds or other animals to nest on your awning.

Do not permit leaves, twigs, etc. to roll up in your awning.

Care and cleaning (as recommended by Sunbrella); Sunbrella fabric should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt, roof particles, etc., are allowed to accumulate on and become embedded in the fabric. The fabric can be cleaned without being removed from the frame. Simply brush off any loose dirt, roof particles, etc.; hose down and clean with a mild natural soap in lukewarm water (no more than 100 degrees F.) Rinse thoroughly to remove soap. DO NOT USE DETERGENTS!
